Curious what a gyroplane flight is like? At Fly Gyros Hawaii, most guests are first-time flyers. No experience is required — just show up ready for a unique aerial adventure over Hawaii’s Big Island.

Here’s how the experience works.

Arrival and Briefing

When you arrive at Kona International Airport, you’ll meet your instructor and go over a short pre-flight briefing. We’ll explain how gyroplanes work, basic safety procedures, and what to expect during the flight. It’s simple, relaxed, and a good time to ask any questions.

Getting Ready

Before the flight, we’ll get you fitted with a headset so you can communicate with your instructor during the flight. Gyroplanes are open-air aircraft, so you’ll have unobstructed views and constant communication with your instructor through the headset.

Takeoff

Gyroplanes take off in a surprisingly short distance. As the rotor spins up and the aircraft accelerates, you’ll smoothly lift off the runway and begin climbing along the Kona coastline.

The Flight Experience

Once airborne, you’ll enjoy incredible views of the Big Island’s coastline, lava fields, and surrounding ocean. The open-air cockpit provides a completely unobstructed view that’s very different from a typical airplane or helicopter tour.

Because Fly Gyros Hawaii is a certified flight school, every flight is conducted with a certified instructor. Many guests enjoy following along with the controls and learning how the aircraft flies during the experience.

The Landing

After the flight, your instructor will guide the aircraft back to the runway for a smooth landing. Gyroplanes are known for their stability and controlled landings, making the return just as enjoyable as the flight itself.

A One-of-a-Kind Big Island Experience

A gyroplane flight is one of the most unique ways to see Hawaii’s Big Island from the air. Whether you’re visiting the island or a local looking for a new perspective, it’s an unforgettable aviation experience.
